When it’s frosty outside, nothing beats cozying up with a delightful cup of hot cocoa. But why settle for ordinary when you can make it extraordinary? These adorable snowman hot cocoa bombs are not only delicious, but they’re also a fun activity for the whole family. Follow our step-by-step guide to create these magical winter treats that promise warmth and smiles all around!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- White Chocolate Melts
- Hot Cocoa Powder
- Regular marshmallows
- Edible black and orange pens or gel icing
- Large circle mold (I use this one)
- Marshmallow bits (optional)
- Mini chocolate chips (optional)
- Crushed peppermint (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
-
Melt Your Chocolate:
- Begin by melting your white chocolate in the microwave following the instructions on the bag. Be sure to stir until it’s completely smooth.
-
Coat the Mold:
- Use a spoon, silicone spatula, or brush to coat your mold with a thick layer of the melted chocolate. Make sure it’s thick enough to avoid cracking as it hardens. I usually stick the mold in the freezer for 10 minutes and if necessary, add a thin second layer for extra strength.
3. Assemble the Mold:
- Once the chocolate has set, pop out from the mold. Take a microwave safe plate and warm for 1-2 minutes. Carefully remove and set on a pot holder.
- Take the bottom half of the round mold and gently melt the opening on the warm plate. This will give you a smooth edge and help connect the top half once fully assembled.
- Add one scoop of hot chocolate and any other toppings you want to include.
- Melt the rim of the top half of the mold with the warm plate, line up with the bottom and secure it closed.
4. Decorate
- Take a regular size marshmallow and dip the bottom into a small amount of melted chocolate, to act as your “glue”. Place on the top of the hot chocolate bomb for the head.
- For the face and arms, you can use an edible marker, gel icing or even melted milk chocolate.
- Use carrot sprinkles or orange marker/icing for the nose if you are lucky enough to have on hand, but regular orange sprinkles or even orange bunny sprinkles (only orange I had on hand!) works in a bind!
5. Enjoy!
- Drop your snowman hot cocoa bomb into a mug of warm milk and watch him or her “explode” into a cup of delicious hot chocolate!
- Stir well and enjoy…but be sure to use caution, as the drink will be hot!
